well i think i've been calling landen 'monkey' too much, it looks like he's starting to think he is one. watch and see...
so i am excited to now have sundays! this may sound strange, but adrian has been working every sunday for, well, it feels like forever. so our weekends usually start with friday night we are exhausted from the week and we just stay home and watch a movie. saturday is soccer during the day and church in the evening, and then sunday adrian goes to work at 7am. so we don't have much time to spend together on the weekend (the week isn't much better). so now that adrian has a new job, we get sundays, which is now our day to spend as a family and go out and do something fun.
so this last sunday we decided to go to white rock . adrian's parents bought adrian a bike trailer so adrian can take landen behind a bike (i know, now we just need the bike). but it can also be used as a jogging stroller. we thought we would take it our for a test drive with our roller blades. well, turns out we weren't the only ones with the idea to go to white rock on a sunny sunday afternoon. so we walked instead.
adrian wanted me to take this picture. there was a guy kite surfing. i thought he was crazy, it wasn't that warm! how can you not love living in BC though? there are people out skiing on the slopes and people at the beach kite surfing. I know people in Manitoba think you get the best of both worlds there, but.....

so we finally had landen's baby dedication at our church on Jan 26th. the first year of landen's life has been very eventful and busy which is why we didn't do the dedication till he was one. but it was fun because we already know his personality and i think it helped to make what we said feel more meaningful. landen even jumped in at the right times, adrian was listing some of his characteristics and mentioned he was persistent. in the picture below you can see him trying to grab the microphone, well he did that for the entire time we had it in hand.
we were also glad that we had waited to have his dedication because the circumstances at the time allowed him to have both sets of grandparents here, which was very special.

we are excited for landen to be able to grow up in wellspring (our church). there is a great community and i know there will be many people who will play a part in landen's life as he grows up. landen has also given adrian the inspiration to get involved with children's ministry, which is something that has always been an interest of his. adrian has just started his new position as children's ministry coordinator at wellspring.

picture of a corn snake with similar coloring (not an actual picture of bailey)
so for those of you who are not aware, i have a pet snake named bailey. bailey is a 4 year old corn snake (he is a small snake, he is not a constrictor, and he is not venomous). i know, a snake is not a typical household pet, but may i point out a very low maintenance pet.
so bailey came about when i was living in abbotsford by myself, before adrian came (we moved at different times). so as i was unpacking i looked at our fish tank and though 'what can we do with this now?' see we had fish when we were in winnipeg, and that did not work out. so i took a trip to the pet store to see what i could find. that is when i found bailey. adrian was a little unsure of this idea at first, but he has come to like bailey.
since we've gotten bailey we have had a few changes in our lives. moving, moving, the addition of milo our dog, more moving, and last but not least the birth of our first child landen. family is very important to adrian and myself and we are finding it hard to balance our time between all the things in our lives. so it is time to say goodbye to bailey. we are looking for a good home for him.
now you may not like the idea of having a snake in your house, but maybe you know someone who would. we would of course include the aquarium and everything in it, even a book on corn snakes. so if you know anyone who is interested please let us know!
my little boy is growing up. i know it's a total cliche, but it seems like not that long ago we left for the hospital as a family of two and came home as a family of three. i can't say the first few weeks were easy, but landen has made our job seem a lot easier than we were expecting.
and now he is one. it has been quite the adventure over the last year. having landen was definitely life changing, and we have been blessed with a very happy child (may have something to do with his middle name, asher, which means 'happy or fortunate'). i think we are the fortunate ones.
for those of you who don't know, i thought i would also share with you the significance of the 17th. it seems to be a very important date for our family. adrian and i were engaged on Nov 17th 2001, married on Aug 17th 2002, landen born on Jan 17th 2007, and adrian's first father's day was on June 17th 2007. coincidence? we don't think so.
so now for the pictures. i thought it would start with a picture of landen right after he was born to show how much he has changed. the rest of the pictures were taken today, on his first birthday. i had to show off his curls after his bath in my favorite pajamas of his. (the mark on his lip is from a disagreement he had with the dishwasher yesterday)
